Learn more about our process
Description
Made from double-layer cotton, this Nuno Mask is printed with a graphic pattern, so you can make a statement as you protect others and yourself from droplets. Super lightweight, the Nuno Reusable Cotton Mask is airy and comfortable, while the accordion pleats allow it to be adjusted for various face sizes. This non-medical-grade mask is reusable and can be hand-washed daily with warm water and soap. Known for their textile designs, Nuno is a Japanese brand with work in MoMA’s collection. The Nuno Reusable Mask is one size fits most and has elastic ear straps. Made in Japan.
Why We Chose This
MoMA has a long history of examining masks from a design perspective. In the 1962 exhibition Design for Sport staged in MoMA’s sculpture garden, a number of masks geared toward athletics were on display. MoMA’s 1991 exhibition Modern Masks and Helmets documented 20th-century designs created to help ensure our safety in everyday occupations and some of life’s pleasures, like sports, but also our survival in the face of life-threatening situations. In the 2005 MoMA exhibition SAFE: Design Takes On Risk a number of mask designs were exhibited alongside a range of objects designed to protect the body and mind from dangerous or stressful circumstances, respond to emergencies, and provide a sense of comfort and security. At MoMA Design Store we continue this legacy of offering masks—designs for pleasure in some instances, and protection and peace of mind in others.
