This intricately beaded Sidai 5-Bar Block Kisongo Necklace is the result of a collaboration between the brand’s founder, Eszter Rabin and her business partner Rebecca Moore, and Maasai women artisans in Tanzania. The design is inspired by the colors of the Kisongo region of Tanzania: the dusty pink of the earth and the golden rays of an African sunset. This necklace also pays homage to the workers who live in Kisongo. Sidai’s jewelry celebrates and is inspired by the patterns and colors of traditional Massai designs, rendered for Sidai in high quality materials. Through this collaboration, Sidai provides economic opportunities for Maasai women and girls. The 5-Bar Block Kisongo Necklace measures 16”l.

To create these intricately beaded designs, brand founder Eszter Rabin and her business partner Rebecca Moore collaborate with Maasai women artisans in Tanzania. Sidai has a core team of nine highly skilled Maasai women who work with 140 skilled women who live in tight-knit groups in town and nearby villages. The jewelry celebrates and is inspired by the patterns and colors of traditional Massai designs, rendered for Sidai in high quality materials. Through this collaboration, Sidai provides economic opportunities for Maasai women and girls.

  • A Palm-Sized Wonder
    How the Teams Work

After designs are finalized by the in-house artists, a sampling artisan creates the final prototype and teaches the team the new design and technique. Because the team workers are all master beaders, they are able to help the design team understand what is and isn’t possible.

  • Easy & Intuitive
    The Kisongo Tribe

The Maasai tribe consists of 14 subtribes. Most of the Maasai who live in Tanzania belong to the Kisongo tribe. Sidai’s Kisongo Necklace is inspired by the wire-wrapped earrings that the women of the tribe wear all day, every day. Sidai’s designers scaled these pieces down and instead of large glass beads, introduced small seed beads in soft contemporary colors.

  • Create Music Quickly
    Life-Improving Workshops

To provide the women with additional resources to the income generating activities, Sidai partners with different NGOs in Tanzania and worldwide to provide impactful workshops and programs. The workshops range from understanding legal rights to reproductive health to environmental awareness and conservation.
