To create these intricately beaded Hoop Earrings, Eszter Rabin, founder of the brand Sidai, and her business partner Rebecca Moore collaborate with Maasai women artisans in Tanzania. This pair of Hoop Earrings were designed in honor of young girls in Maasai communities, who sit with their mothers and learn to bead while singing songs. It’s a Maasai tradition for these girls to wear simply strung beaded jewelry until they’re ready to marry. Sidai’s jewelry celebrates and is inspired by the patterns and colors of traditional Massai designs, rendered for Sidai in high quality materials. Through this collaboration, Sidai provides economic opportunities for Maasai women and girls. These Hoop Earrings measure 0.62” diam for the small, 1.5” diam for the large.

To create these intricately beaded designs, brand founder Eszter Rabin and her business partner Rebecca Moore collaborate with Maasai women artisans in Tanzania. Sidai has a core team of nine highly skilled Maasai women who work with 140 skilled women who live in tight-knit groups in town and nearby villages. The jewelry celebrates and is inspired by the patterns and colors of traditional Massai designs, rendered for Sidai in high quality materials. Through this collaboration, Sidai provides economic opportunities for Maasai women and girls.

  • How the Teams Work
    How the Teams Work

After designs are finalized by the in-house artists, a sampling artisan creates the final prototype and teaches the team the new design and technique. Because the team workers are all master beaders, they are able to help the design team understand what is and isn’t possible.

  • The Kisongo Tribe
    A Family Tradition

In Maasai society, women are largely responsible for homemaking, raising children, preparing food, tending to cattle and creating jewelry, in which girls learn beading from their mothers. Sidai has several mother-daughter teams that work side-by-side.

  • Life-Improving Workshops
    Life-Improving Workshops

To provide the women with additional resources to the income generating activities, Sidai partners with different NGOs in Tanzania and worldwide to provide impactful workshops and programs. The workshops range from understanding legal rights to reproductive health to environmental awareness and conservation.
