MoMA Exclusive: To create this Bijou Loop Wool Scarf for the brand Nuno (the Japanese word for “fabric”), designer Reiko Sudo works with weavers and dyers in Kiryu, Japan, combining traditional techniques with new technologies. Fine merino wool and ultra-light yet warm alpaca loop yarns are combined to form a complex triangle-pattern weave. The triangle motif represents auspicious symbols in Japanese culture, prevalent in tumulus tomb murals and Noh costumes. Sudo’s work is represented in MoMA’s collection and her designs were featured in the Museum’s 1998 exhibition Structure and Surface: Contemporary Japanese Textiles. The Nuno Bijou Loop Scarf is made from 88% wool and 12% nylon, and measures 71l x 15"w.
