Degas: Dancer Gilded Journal
Description
This gilded-edge journal features a reproduction of Edgar Degas's work Dancer (c. 1876-77) from the exhibition Edgar Degas: A Strange New Beauty. Beginning in the 1870s and continuing throughout his career, Degas explored every facet of dancers' lives at the Paris Opéra. Using a variety of mediums and approaches, he investigated the organization of multiple figures in space; the representation of movement as ballerinas pirouette or leap into the air; the flexibility of the female body as tutu-clad figures twist and turn into seemingly impossible poses; and the luminosity of artificial lighting, a technical advance of the period that changed the nature of nineteenth century entertainment.
