“I often start by cutting the shape out of paper first, almost like a quick prototype,” explains designer Sophie Monet. “Then I trace it onto the wood, cut it out, and start refining from there. A lot of it is trial and error, fooling around, trying different methods, and asking, ‘Could this become an earring? A necklace? Does it feel good on the body?’”
“Everything is made by hand in our woodshop. It’s a very hands-on process of cutting, sanding, and refining until it’s right. It’s about honoring the material. Wood is so alive and specific, and I want the final piece to feel modern but still natural and easy to wear. I love pairing it with elements like stones and metal so there’s this balance between earthy and sculptural.”
“My dad’s influence shows up in the shapes and also in the discipline. He’s meticulous, and he taught me to respect craftsmanship and the tiny details. He also has this habit of bringing inspiration into the studio, like tearing out pages from the newspaper to share shapes or ideas. It’s such a simple daily reminder to stay curious and keep looking.”
Handcrafted in Venice, California, Sophie Monet jewelry is a celebration of natural materials and sculptural form. Designer Sophie Monet Okulick draws inspiration from her childhood spent in her father’s woodworking studio, blending mid-century references with an earthy, modern appeal. Each piece is thoughtfully composed of sustainably sourced wood, precious stones, and metals to create a bold yet effortless statement.
