Represented in MoMA’s collection, Verner Panton’s famously curvy stacking chair was developed for serial production by Vitra in 1967. An icon of 20th-century modern design, it was the first all-plastic chair made in one piece and the material makes it slightly flexible. The cantilevered shape provides comfort and the material allows it to be used outdoors. (It will also make a statement in any room of your home.)

The Panton Chair comes in a variety of colors, so you can make a colorful, striking statement by grouping the chairs together. They stack for easy storage. After prolonged exposure outside, clean the chair and store in a dry, sheltered place to ensure lasting use and to avoid deterioration in appearance. Known for his futuristic designs in a variety of materials, particularly plastic, Verner Panton (1926–1998) is considered one of Denmark's most influential designers of the last century. Although his designs for the home and office have a distinct 1960s style, they have attained a timeless appeal. His work in MoMA's collection includes the Stacking Side Chair (1959–1960), a gravity-defying design made from fiber-reinforced plastic. His furniture and lighting designs have appeared in exhibitions at the Museum, including Architecture and Design: Inaugural Installation (2004–2005).
