Crafted from brightly colored glass, the Lorosae Portable Table Lamp was designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira, a leading figure in Portuguese architecture whose work is represented in MoMA’s collection. The lamp’s design is inspired by a trip Viera took to Timor Loro Sae, in East Timor. “Timor Lorosa’e” translates as “east rising sun,” and the light of this area was the muse for the Lorosae Lamp’s illumination—the entire lamp, shade and base, glows with LED light.
