With its wide shape, soft, flowing lines and tendency to float overhead while providing an ethereal glow, the Nelson™ Saucer Bubble Pendant makes an elegantly whimsical reference to its UFO namesake. Designer George Nelson developed the Bubble Pendant Lamps series of lightweight, transparent shapes with visible steel infrastructures after feeling challenged by the high price of some silk-covered Swedish lamps he sought for his office. Replacing the silk with a sprayable plastic resin created new design possibilities and a more affordable manufacturing process.The Nelson™ Saucer Bubble Pendant includes a ceiling plate of brushed, nickel-plated steel and a 10-foot cord, and is UL listed. The George Nelson™ Saucer Bubble Pendant is available in sizes S(7h x 17.5"diam.) M(10h x 25"diam.) L(14h x 35"diam.) Size S can accommodate a 60-watt standard bulb; sizes M and L can accommodate a bulb up to 150 watts (not included). Installation required. George Nelson has work in MoMA’s collection.
