Bring both brightness and positivity to your environment with the cheerful Smiley Lights, featuring the iconic Smiley line-drawing we all know and love against a bright yellow round globe. First published as a symbol for happy news in the French newspaper France-Soir in 1971, Franklin Loufrani designed the smiley face for his column and invited viewers to “Take the Time to Smile!” Since then, Smiley has become a happy icon that communicates positivity to the world. An emblem for anyone preferring to swap a narrative of despair with possibility and promise, the Smiley collection radiates a simple, universal joy.

Place a lamp in your bedroom (or the children’s room), home office or living area to remind yourself to “take the time to smile.” Use the yellow touch dimmer button located on the power cable to cycle through six brightness settings for the Smiley’s wired LED lamp, including a “night mode” that functions as a nightlight. Choose from Large 9.85” or XL 17.75” diam. spherical lights. The Large light is of an ideal size to place on a table or desk, while the XL is big enough to place on the floor, yet also happily takes up space on higher surfaces. Both lights are made in the Netherlands and plug in using a standard cord and outlet. Both are made from hard polyethelene. For ages 3+.Mini Smiley Light sold separately here.

Why We Chose This
We chose these Smiley Lights based on the iconic status of the smiley face—the motif captures the zeitgeist of the 1970s' unique take on the pursuit of happiness. The designer, Franklin Loufrani, introduced the symbol in 1971 as a way of highlighting and sharing happy news in the French newspaper he worked for. An earlier smiley face was designed in the US in 1963 by Harvey Ross Ball for State Mutual Life Assurance Company as an image to increase morale among the workers.
