MoMA Exclusive: A collaborative effort between luxury scarf maker Petrusse and Maison Matisse, this square-shaped Four Seasons Silk Scarf pays thoughtful tribute to the formidable artist who has work in MoMA’s collection. The designs, each dedicated to a season with emblematic shapes and colors, come from gouache paper cut-outs Matisse created in 1951 for Bungeishunjū, a Japanese literary magazine. Hand-rolled and hand-stitched in France, these printed silk-twill scarves are exceptional and elegant accessories. Tie one around your neck or gift it to someone special. The Henri Matisse Four Seasons Silk Scarf measures 25.6l x 25.6”w.

Why We Chose This
In 1951, near the end of this life, Henri Matisse was commissioned by the presigious Japanese literary magazine Bungeishunjū to create a series of cover designs. The resulting artworks, which represented the four seasons through monochromatic paper cut-outs, marked a unique cross-cultural artistic milestone for Matisse—and demonstrated the global appeal of his late-period aesthetic.
