Why We Chose This
In 1951, near the end of this life, Henri Matisse was commissioned by the presigious Japanese literary magazine Bungeishunjū to create a series of cover designs. The resulting artworks, which represented the four seasons through monochromatic paper cut-outs, marked a unique cross-cultural artistic milestone for Matisse—and demonstrated the global appeal of his late-period aesthetic.
