Designed in collaboration with UNIQLO, MoMA curators and video game designers and representatives, this 100% cotton Space Invaders T-shirt is from a collection produced in honor of the Museum’s exhibition Never Alone: Video Games and Other Interactive Design, on view through July 16, 2023. Each t-shirt from the collection features the MoMA logo reinterpreted through the visual language of an iconic video game. On the back of this Space Invaders T-Shirt, the logo has been reimagined as the partially destroyed defense bunkers that are under attack by the alien invaders. The “HI-SCORE” of 1978 is a nod to the year Space Invaders was launched. The front of the t-shirt features the video game’s logo.

Space Invaders is represented in MoMA’s collection. Designer Tomohiro Nishikado was inspired by North American target shooting games, such as Gun Fight (1975) and Breakout (1976), and as well as the film Star Wars (1977) and the novel War of the Worlds (1897.)
