Why We Chose This
Sustainability, traditional techniques, family businesses—these are some of the things we look for when we choose our products each season. The Rayas Collective is a family partnership based in Nahuizalco, El Salvador, that is committed to traditional Salvadoran crafts. Commited to sustainability, the brand's team of skilled artisans weave bags that are made from a mix of localy sourced virgin and post-consumer recycled material.
Crafting the Baskets
“The baskets are made by weaving cords of material around wooden molds, which are handmade by a local carpenter right next to Vanesa’s workshop,” explains Luisa, the designer for Rayas Collective. “It took several rounds of sampling before we were completely satisfied with the proportions and dimensions of each style.”
Sourcing the Materials
“We visited the producer of the raw material in San Salvador. The cords are made from a mix of post-consumer recycled plastic and locally sourced virgin materials. Some of the darker colors, like black and brown, are already made from 100% recycled plastic.”

Rayas Collective
Rayas Collective was founded in 2022 by sisters-in-law Luisa and Consuelo after they traveled to Consuelo’s home country of El Salvador. While exploring local craft markets and connecting with artisans, they returned inspired and eager to share the beauty of El Salvador through their designs. Luisa designs the baskets while Consuelo manages production and logistics. They collaborate with Consuelo’s mother, Vanesa, and brother on creating the basket bags.
