One of the finest American artists of the twentieth century, Demuth brought to American painting a sensibility cultivation, with, and daring which were rare in his generation. All his known illustrations are reproduced with accompanying texts: the now famous interpretations of Henry James, as well as many illustrations for Zola, Poe, and Franz Wedekind, most of which are reproduced for the first time. 96 pp.; 82 illus. Published in 1950 and edited by Andrew Carnduff Ritchie, this rare book from MoMA Publications is available in extremely limited quantities. Each book from this special selection has been stored for decades in MoMA’s warehouse.
