Pre-order now for an estimated ship date of Sept. 28 MoMA Exclusive: The gravity-defying Panton Chair, the first one-piece cantilever chair ever made, was originally designed by Verner Panton in 1959 and was first produced by Vitra in 1967. Flash-forward to 1998 when Vitra collaborated with Verner’s wife, Marianne, and conceived the Duo version of the chair shortly after the designer’s death—but the design was shelved because of quality concerns around the lacquering process. While the 1959 version of the chair—an object in MoMA’s collection—was monochromatic, the Panton Chair Duo features dual colors, one on each side, that reference Verner Panton’s legendary Fantasy Landscape installation at the 1970 Visiona 2 exhibition in Cologne, Denmark. 


Produced now for the first time, the Panton Chair Duo follows the same production principles as the original design, but employs a lacquering technique superior to the methods used in the past. The result is a surface that optimally accentuates the chairs' bold colors: Pine Green/Purplish Blue, Purplish Blue/Purple Violet, Purple Violet/Pink Magenta, Pink Magenta/Panton Classic Red and Panton Classic Red/Bright Orange. The Panton Chair Duo comes in a set of five, and the set has been produced in a limited edition of 200. Use the chairs at your dining table or as statement makers anywhere in your home. The chairs are stackable and each one is made from rigid polyurethane foam with a glossy lacquer finish and measures 33.25h x 19.25w x 23.5"d. The Seat measures 16.25"h x 18"d. Vitra is a manufacturer represented in MoMA’s collection.
