An Italian design from 1971, the Parentesi Floor Lamp celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2021. To commemorate this, the lamp has been produced with its tube in new, pop colors. (The original design has a black tube.) The designers of this eye-catching lamp, Achille Castiglioni and Pio Manzu never met: Castiglioni executed the design based on Manzu’s drawings, found after his death. The Parentesi’s name (Italian for “parentheses”) nods to the nickel-plated, bracket-like tube attached to a steel cable. This innovative bracket allows the lamp head to move vertically along the floor-to-ceiling cable, with tension created by a 12-lb weigh on the floor, for a customized position. Friction holds it in place. Achille Castiglioni is a designer with work in MoMA’s collection. Made in Italy from steel and plastic, the Parentesi Floor Lamp measures 157.5h x 4.5"diam. Some installation required.
