Luna Floor Lamp
Presented in prototype form at the 11th Triennale in Milan in 1957 by Gio Ponti, this design’s oval shade glows with diffused light, like a full moon casting its beams. Made in Italy, the lamp features a handle seamlessly incorporated into the design that allows you to easily adjust its position. Requires three 6W E26 LED bulbs (not included).

A designer represented in MoMA’s collection, Gio Ponti was an Italian architect, industrial designer, artist and furniture designer born in 1891. For his lamp designs, he favored two approaches: bright lights with intense colors and minimalist pieces, such as the Luna. In 1961, he designed the Pirelli Tower for his hometown of Milan. On the day it was finished, he reportedly quipped, “She is so beautiful that I’d love to marry her.” Ponti was also a publisher and in 1928 he founded Domus, a magazine devoted to architecture and design. His work has been featured in MoMA exhibitions, including What Was Good Design? MoMA’s Message 1944-56 (2009-11) and Century of the Child: Growing by Design, 1900–2000 (2012).
