Riki Watanabe Solid Stool

A rare reproduction of a 1954 design from the legendary Riki Watanabe, who is known for creating Japan’s first design office, the Solid Stool looks like a delicately perched, symmetrical insect that could fold its wings at any minute. In fact, it’s as solid a seat as its name implies, with steel legs and a carefully angled, fixed butterfly seat set at just the right angle for comfort. Where the two pieces of wood that compose the seat join, a rectangular notch makes the perfect handhold for carrying.

The Solid Stool is faithfully reproduced from its original design, fashioned for a house built by Japanese architect Kiyoshi Seike. It’s made in Japan from oiled, rot-resistant, FSC teak wood and steel legs with a baked enamel finish, and may be cleaned by wiping gently with a soft cloth.
