When you can’t wait to show off your assortment of homemade mini cupcakes to guests in every room, simply lift off the removable top of this clever steel table, a riff on a traditional Scandinavian design, and go to it. This low table (it’s about 14 inches tall) has ample room for various objects, from magazines to a tea set, on its round tray top. It can also be used as a side table. Designed for HAY, a manufacturer with work in MoMA’s collection.

This table is designed by GamFratesi, a Copenhagen-based studio founded in 2006 by Danish architect Stine Gam and Italian architect Enrico Fratesi. Their designs draw on classic Danish furniture and craft traditions combined with the Italian intellectual and conceptual approach.

HAY Tulou Round Coffee Table

  • HAY

HAY, founded in 2002 in Denmark by husband-and-wife team Mette and Rolf Hay, was born with the idea of offering thoughtful, functional, beautiful and high-quality designs at accessible prices. HAY is represented as a manufacturer in MoMA’s collection with several objects, such as the Prince Chair, a 2002 design by Louise Campbell. Devised for a competition to create a chair for the Crown Prince of Denmark, its seat resembles an unfolded paper cutout. Another design in the collection, Stefan Diez’s 2013 Rope Trick Lamp, is inspired by power transfer coils common to CNC hardware.
