Designed for Flos in 1998 by Achille Castiglioni, the Diablo Pendant Lamp was inspired by a Chinese yo-yo game, in which an hourglass-shaped object is moved back and forth on a string between two sticks—a favorite pastime of Castiglioni, according to his daughter, Giovanna. Made in Italy, this spun aluminum design is composed of two cones—the base and the shade—that ingeniously conceal a pulley system, which is used to alter the hanging distance of the shade. (The base conceals the cable reel and the power cord.) The moveable pendant light’s diffuser interior has glossy white finish and produces a direct light. This versatility allows the Diablo to be used in a multitude of settings. To adjust the pendant, move it manually by pulling it down or pushing it up and it will stay in place. Can be used with 1 X 15W LED E26 2700K 1600lm (Included). Weighs 6.39 lbs. and has 61” black cord. Installation required. The Diablo Pendant Lamp’s ceiling cap measures 22h x 6”diam.; shade measures 15.4h x 15.4”diam. Both the designer and the manufacturer, Flos, have work in MoMA’s collection.
