B-4 Table Lamp
Designed in 1945 by Greta M. Grossman, this colorful steel table lamp is inspired by the glass-walled houses she designed—perched on stilts, and with cantilevered decks—in Southern California. Made up of playful angles and geometric elements, the B-4 Table Lamp features movable visors in white, burgundy, green, blue and black that allow you to softly diffuse its light. It adds a dash of traditional Californian glamour to any room: living area, workspace, bedroom, or kitchen. The B-4 Table Lamp takes a standard 40 watt light bulb (not included). Grossman's work is represented in MoMA's collection.
Why We Chose This
Greta Magnusson Grossman's designs were first on view at MoMA in 1950 as part of a Good Design exhibition — an annual series showcasing the best new contemporary designs. Her Cobra Lamp, a design in MoMA’s collection, was featured in the exhibition. A product designer but also an architect, Grossman had a studio in California and is credited with bringing Swedish architecture to Los Angeles, including her work on famous Hollywood homes. The B-4 Table Lamp is a prime example of Grossman bringing her architectural vision to everyday household objects.

The Museum of Modern Art established the world's first curatorial department devoted to architecture and design. MoMA Design Store carries a selection of design objects from that collection. We only offer authorized versions in the colors and materials selected by the original designers. MoMA's design collection is ever-changing, a reflection of the evolving field of design itself.
