Opinel Explore Folding Knife No.12
An essential for the camping and hiking adventures of weekend warriors and naturalists alike, the Opinel Explore Folding Knife smartly conceals a whistle, a gutting hook and a fire starter in its sturdy handle. Known as one of the French Alps’ finest knife makers since 1890, Opinel rarely creates a blade without a wooden handle. But in this case, the orange and army-green fiberglass-reinforced polyamide was chosen for its ability to withstand shocks, humidity and extreme temperatures—and to conceal additional tools.Pull on the orange tab at the base to expose the fire starter, which can be rubbed against the knife to produce flint and sparks. Also at the base is a metal hook, which in one position can be used as a sturdy loop for hanging or carrying the knife. Push this same hook through the knife to expose a sharp hook that is intended for use in gutting fish or small animals.
The knife has a twist-lock mechanism to ensure the blade stays locked when in use, and folded when not. Finally, the base of the handle has a 110-decibel pealess whistle that functions in any weather. The Opinel Explore Folding Knife measures 7” long when the knife is closed and 10” open, and should be hand washed and dried.Features of the Opinel Explore Folding Knife include:
- A fire starter which can be rubbed against the knife to produce flints and sparks.
- A metal hook that can be used for carrying the knife or for gutting fish or small animals.
- Twist-lock mechanism.
- Handle features a 110-decibel pealess whistle that functions in any weather.
