Sol Lewitt Cake Plates - Lines in 4 Directions
These ceramic plates are hand-painted using the Italian tradition of Majolica a technique that dates back to the Renaissance. They represent two works by Sol Lewitt: Lines in 4 Directions from 1984 and Curvy Blue Lines from 2005. The pattern for the latter was designed for a circular dance floor in Parco degli Ippocastani a popular public park in Spoleto Italy which was never realized. Made in Italy by La Gioconda a manufacture in MoMA's collection.
