Zensah Reusable Running Mask
Description
Breathing while wearing a mask during running and athletic activities can be tough—until now. The ultra-comfortable Zensah Running Mask is a reusable design made from antimicrobial, odor-free, light synthetic fabric that can be washed by hand after each use with warm soap and water. The Zensah Mask’s moisture-wicking fabric dries quickly, so it can stand up to your sweat as you run, exercise or play sports, especially on hot summer days. The Zensah Running Mask is a non-medical-grade, one size fits most design made from polyamide, polypropylene, elastane and silver. The mask is secured by double comfort straps that wrap around the back of the head, eliminating tugging on ears or chafing.
Why We Chose This
MoMA has a long history of examining masks from a design perspective. In the 1962 exhibition Design for Sport staged in MoMA’s sculpture garden, a number of masks geared toward athletics were on display. MoMA’s 1991 exhibition Modern Masks and Helmets documented 20th-century designs created to help ensure our safety in everyday occupations and some of life’s pleasures, like sports, but also our survival in the face of life-threatening situations. In the 2005 MoMA exhibition SAFE: Design Takes On Risk a number of mask designs were exhibited alongside a range of objects designed to protect the body and mind from dangerous or stressful circumstances, respond to emergencies, and provide a sense of comfort and security. At MoMA Design Store we continue this legacy of offering masks—designs for pleasure in some instances, and protection and peace of mind in others.
Innovative Function
Function plays a large role in defining good design. When designers look at an object, they don't just consider its aesthetic appearance—they should also challenge it to be more versatile, to respond to the user's need, or to achieve its purpose more elegantly. Good design has the capacity to solve problems that sometimes we didn't even know we had. This is one of the ways design touches and enriches our everyday life.
