T.S.S. Luminaire Table Lamp
Description
MoMA Exclusive: When Juliette Felippelli, founder of the LA design firm JOOGII, conceived this lamp, she began with a fantasy: an imaginary meeting between Brazilian modernist architect Oscar Niemeyer and Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson. Indeed, in the T.S.S. Luminaire Table Lamp (T.S.S. stands for Time, Space and Sound), one can see the flared columns of Niemeyer’s Planalto Palace in Brasilia and Eliasson’s various light installations suggested by the lamp’s central globe. The translucent “flared columns”, in blue, yellow and orange, act as a stand and frame for the lamp, and create interesting color play as they catch the globe’s soft illumination.

With an appearance similar to a hot air balloon that is waiting to take off, the T.S.S. Luminaire Table Lamp makes a fantastical centerpiece for your dining table or mantelpiece. Manufactured in Los Angeles, the T.S.S. Luminaire Table Lamp is 11" high and made from acrylic, mouth-blown milk glass and chrome. It’s powered by a standard plug-in cord and requires one 4.5 LED 120v bulb, not included.
Why We Chose This
This design, which debuted at Milan's SalonSatellite in 2018, juxtaposes an LED-illuminated mouth-blown glass globe with a brightly colored acrylic frame. The acrylic was cut using an innovative production method called CNC (Computer Numerical Controlled) milling. This machining process uses a rotating cylindrical cutting tool that is able to move along multiple axes, creating a variety of shapes, slots and holes.
