Kiki Smith is a West German-born American artist whose work addresses themes like sex, birth, death and regeneration. Sparked by the death of her father, artist Tony Smith, and the AIDS-related death of her sister, underground performer Bebe Smith, Smith’s work investigates morality and the physical nature of the human form. These themes appear in her many works across various mediums, most notably sculpture and printmaking (which are represented in MoMA’s collection).
