Our Holiday Card Program has included designs by artists in MoMA’s collection such as Andy Warhol, Sister Mary Corita and Robert Indiana. A 1947 card we reissued this year by Alexander Calder is one of the earliest designs from the Program.
Starting in the 1960s, our designers began progressing beyond flat cards. Elevating the medium of paper with interactive elements, these cards were the first 3D and pop-up cards available in the general market.
Each season starts with an open call to artists: Send us your best holiday card designs. After several rounds of reviews by our selection committee over the course of months, we choose what we consider to be the best cards for celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, the New Year and the general holiday season.
