Since the 1940s, MoMA Design Store has introduced a new line of holiday cards created by emerging and established artists. A number of our card designs have won awards for best designs in the card industry.
2. From Card to Canvas
Did you know that Robert Indiana’s iconic Love screenprint was first created for a MoMA Christmas card in 1965? Other famous artists who have designed MoMA holiday cards early in their careers include Andy Warhol, Alexander Calder, Jim Dine and Ben Shahn.
3. New Dimensions in Design
Around the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, our designers began progressing beyond flat cards. Elevating the medium of paper with interactive elements, these cards were the first 3-D and pop-up cards available in the general market.
4. An Open Call to Creatives
Each year, it starts with an open call to artists: Send us your best holiday card designs. After several rounds of reviews by our selection committee over the course of months, we choose what we consider to be the best cards for celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, the New Year and the general holiday season.
5. This Season’s Standouts
Here are a few of our favorite cards and artists this holiday season.
