George Nelson Popsicle Clock

In the 1950s, George Nelson and his legendary NYC-based design firm created a series of everyday objects with the goal of bringing modern design to American homes. One of the many unusual wall clocks developed as part of this initiative was the Popsicle Clock, whose face is composed of a pleasingly radiant series of flat walnut rods that resemble the sticks on which the classic American frozen treat is served. Its polished golden center and white powder-coated metal hands add a touch of fantasy and whimsy to the organic-looking design. The Popsicle Clock is made in Germany by Vitra, of walnut and brass. George Nelson has work in MoMA’s collection.
