Mattiazzi Osso Chair
Description
For designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, materials are everything. “The quality of the wood literally makes the object,” they assert—a conviction manifested in their Osso chair. The rounded, organic forms of this dining or side chair offer ample surfaces to celebrate the unique grain of the waxed black finish of the wood. Its seat and back panels are made through a high-tech process that infuses the design with strength to match its beauty. Made in Italy by Mattiazzi for Herman Miller®, a manufacturer in MoMA’s collection.

Paris-based brothers and design partners Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have been working together since the mid-90s. Their work includes a wide range of designs, including furniture, home accents, and tech. Their earliest design in MoMA’s collection, the Square Vase, was created in 1999. Since then, several of the brothers’ designs have been added to the collection, and the MoMA Design Store regularly seeks out the latest examples of their work, such as the Belleville Chair, a piece that manifests their core attributes of minimalism and elegance. Their work has also been included in four of the Museum’s exhibitions.
