Biagio Marble Table Lamp
Description
Seamlessly carved from a single piece of exquisite Carrara marble, each of Tobia Scarpa’s Biagio lamps is a one-of-a-kind, luminous work of art for your desk, hall table, or end table. It emits a soft, distinctive light diffused through the translucent marble. A favorite design since its debut in 1968, its remarkably modern shape commands attention wherever it’s placed. Made in Italy. Both the designer and the manufacturer, Flos, are represented in MoMA’s collection.

Tobia Scarpa received more than an education from Venice’s Instituto Universitario di Architettura—he also met his wife and design partner, Afra Blanchin. Since 1960, the couple has collaborated on designs for several prominent international companies, including Flos, Cassina, and Knoll. Their signature vocabulary features accessible yet luxurious design based on expanding technology and a varied palette of materials. Along with commercial architecture and interior design, some of the Scarpas’ best-known work was for the Benetton clothing company. Their designs have been included in four of the Museum’s exhibitions, from Recent Acquisitions: Design Collection (1967-68) to Shaping Modernity 1880-1980 (2013).
