Taccia LED Table Lamp
Description
Inspired by the illusion of an oversized, upside-down hanging light, Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni created this table lamp to play with our preconceived perspectives. Their 1962 design features a concave, spun-aluminum reflector with a matte white finish. Perfect for a credenza or large end table, its light can be adjusted simply by repositioning the blown glass diffuser. Its handsome base is made of anodized, matte black aluminum. Made in Italy. Both the designers and the manufacturer, Flos, are represented in MoMA’s collection.

Born in Milan in 1918, Achille Castiglioni is an internationally acknowledged master of Italian design. During his 52-year career, he designed and collaborated on nearly 150 design objects, from lamps to cameras to car seats. His work is known for combining simplicity with fun, along with close attention to how objects are used in real life. In 1997, MoMA launched the first individual retrospective of his work with the exhibition Achille Castiglioni: Design! Prior to that, his designs were featured in numerous exhibitions at the Museum, including The Modern Movement in Italy: Architecture and Design (1954) and Recent Acquisitions: Design (1967-8 and 1970-1). Castiglioni’s work has had a significant impact on the history of the applied arts and has taught generations about good design.
