Tripod Lamp
Description
Comprised of a single piece of mouth-blown glass, this 1978 design by Dutch designer Gijs Bakker evokes an 18th-century laboratory bell jar. The light bulb is supported at the center by three hollow, finger-shaped sections of glass, created by indentations in the exterior. The lamp emits a soft, smoky ambient light. Requires one E26 40w bulb, not included.

The lamp’s designer, Gijs Bakker, cofounded Droog Design in 1994 which is represented in MoMA’s collection. The conceptual design company is known for its unexpected designs that aim to contribute to society. As a multidisciplinary designer, Bakker has conceived numerous design icons, applying his philosophy of “conceptual design in context.”
