The multi-faceted artist, designer and architect Alexander Girard was one of the leading figures of postwar American design. His work exuded a sensuous playfulness that had been absent from the austere aesthetic of classic modernism.
The two-toned pattern of the Double Heart Blanket was originally conceived in 1971 as a printing motif for decorative wall panels, fabrics or pillows. In collaboration with the Girard family, Vitra is now producing this graphic design as a vibrant and sumptuous wool blanket. Made in a jacquard weave, a technique that highlights the constellations of vibrant and muted color tones.
