Cubelets Robot Blocks Sets

Featured in MoMA’s 2011 Talk to Me exhibition, Cubelets are a fun and fascinating way to introduce big ideas through play. Each robot block in the Cubelets Robot Blocks Discovery Set is a little bundle of software inside a magnetic hardware block, giving each Cubelet its own unique function. Their magnetic faces let them snap together easily, and come with the yellow Brick Adapters that connect to LEGO® and other building-block toys. Funded in part by a grant from the National Science Foundation, designer Eric Schweikardt created the Cubelets to give people from ages 4 to 104 the tools to learn design principles through play by building and manipulating complex physical systems. Both the blocks you choose for your construction and the way you assemble them create new behaviors in your robot as you put it together. Cubelets are used in learning institutions from Vermont to Vietnam. Advanced learners can use the Cubelets Robot Blocks Discovery Set to build their parallel programming skills, while the youngest robot builders might start off with simple concepts like cause and effect. Cubelets are each 1.65” square and can be controlled with the Cubelets app or reprogrammed in Blockly, a drag-and-drop visual programming language, or C. Ages 4+
The Cubelets Robot Blocks Discovery Set is the perfect introduction to using Cubelets. Each set includes:
- 1 Battery Cubelet to provide energy—up to 6 hours of playtime per charge
- 1 Brightness Cubelet that detects and responds to light
- 1 Drive Cubelet to provide physical motion
- 1 Distance Cubelet that detects and responds to nearby objects
- 1 Flashlight Cubelet with a dimmable LED light
- 1 Bluetooth Hat to pair your robot with free companion apps on your smart device
- 2 Brick Adapters for expanding building capabilities with building block toys
- 1 printed Discovery Guide and a downloadable Parents’ Play Guide
- 1 micro USB charging cable
Build your own robot formed from many little robotic blocks with the Cubelets Robot Blocks Curiosity Set . Each 1.65” square Cubelet belongs to one of three categories: SENSE Cubelets take in information from the environment, THINK Cubelets compute and change that information, and ACT Cubelets turn that information into a physical action. String them together to build a robot that changes its behavior as you assemble it. Featured in MoMA’s 2011 exhibit Talk to Me, Cubelets were created to provide conceptual learning tools for everyone. Using the Cubelets Robot Blocks Curiosity Set, kids four and up can learn big ideas like design, collaboration, engineering, robotics, computational thinking, coding and more. Their extreme versatility means that Cubelets make great toys for small children as well as complex tools for adults. Cubelets are each 1.65” square and can be controlled with the Cubelets app or reprogrammed in Blockly, a drag-and-drop visual programming language, or C. It includes Brick Adapters to connect to brick-based building toys and the Bluetooth Hat to connect with Bluetooth-enabled wireless devices. Ages 4+
The Cubelets Robot Blocks Curiosity Set contains additional components to assist beginning, intermediate or more advanced users. Each set includes:
