Eero Aarnio Puppy
Description

Finnish designer Eero Aarnio created a puppy as seen through children’s eyes: A head, a body and legs—abstracted, rounded shapes that come to life in this friendly, colorful polyethylene pup. As a huggable toy, sculptural stool, or decorative dog, the sturdy but lightweight companion is ready for endless moments of fun, both indoors and out. Aarnio’s iconic design is featured in MoMA’s collection. Made in Italy.

Born in Helsinki in 1932, Finnish designer Eero Aarnio is one of the great innovators of modern furniture. In the 1960s, Aarnio began experimenting with plastics, vivid colors, and organic forms, moving beyond the bent plywood aesthetic that had dominated Scandinavian modernism. His now iconic plastic creations include the Ball (1963), Pastil (1968), and Bubble (1968) chairs which echo the pop culture playfulness of their time. Two of Aarnio’s works are included in MoMA’s collection: Gyro Chair (1968) and Puppy (2005), which was part of the Museum’s 2012 exhibition, Century of the Child: Growing by Design, 1900-2000.
