Italian architect and designer Michele de Lucchi’s stovetop espresso maker for the Italian brand Alessi which is featured in MoMA’s collection rethinks the traditional model to great success. The unique internal shape of its special heater means it automatically stops filtering coffee at the right moment preventing burnt and bitter aftertastes. The elegant shape is designed for perfectly cut drops when pouring. When not in use it’s beautiful enough to store right on the stovetop. Fun fact: the sculptural shape was inspired by the designer’s own backyard chickens.
