Crucial Detail founder Martin Kastner was born in the Czech Republic and trained as a blacksmith before moving on to working with natural materials and sculpture. Knowledge of how metal can be formed influences his sculptures and is apparent in the Porthole’s simple yet sophisticated design that quickly creates elaborately beautiful infusions.
Function plays a large role in defining good design. When designers look at an object, they don't just consider its aesthetic appearance—they should also challenge it to be more versatile, to respond to the user's need, or to achieve its purpose more elegantly. Good design has the capacity to solve problems that sometimes we didn't even know we had. This is one of the ways design touches and enriches our everyday life.
The Porthole is a simple, beautiful infusion vessel designed by Martin Kastner of Crucial Detail design studio. Inspired by submarine portholes, this striking infuser can be used to create cocktails, infused oils, dressings, lemonade, and more. With a modern, stylish look, the Porthole is manufactured to rigorous standards and is durable and easy to use. Kit includes four delicious recipes. Dishwasher safe. Capacity: 13oz.
The Porthole is featured in the Kickstarter@MoMA Design Store presentation, and was brought to life by 4,270 backers on Kickstarter.
