Inspired by what she saw at the first Bauhaus exhibition in 1923, Marianne Brandt abandoned her career as an expressionistic painter, began her studies at the influential German school in 1924, and soon rose to become the female master of the metal workshop. During her first year, Brandt produced impressively original designs for an ashtray and a teapot which was accompanied by this sugar bowl and creamer set. The designer translated the abstract vocabulary of the circle, square, and triangle into a functional set with a strong visual language that speaks to the intelligent, reductionist virtues espoused by the Bauhaus school. Set contains: tray, creamer, sugar bowl, sugar tongs. Made by Alessi.
