Gio Floor Lamp
The slender Gio Floor Lamp takes its design inspiration from revolutionary Italian lighting designs from the 1970s and brings them into the present—its white 3D-printed shade and base
are made from a corn-based plastic substitute. The material, known as Gantri Plant Polymer (GPP), is the world’s first plant-derived polylactic acid.
The Gio Lamp employs geometric lines with its parallel steel stands and sculpted details for a silhouette that is both subtle and statement-making. Powered by a standard plug-in with a 90”-long cord and a dimmable on-cord switch, it can live in any room in your home. Made in the USA, the Gio Floor Lamp measures 63.5h x 8"diam. and weighs 17lbs. It uses a 9.5W E26 LED bulb of 950 lumens (included).
Why We Chose This
The Gio Floor Lamp is made from an innovative, eco-friendly alternative to plastic, a corn-based polymer co-developed by the California-based manufacturer Gantri and colorFabb, a company known for its 3D-printed products. This durable material—Gantri Plant Polymer (GPP)—is specifically engineered for lighting designs and unlike traditional petroleum-based plastics, it is safe and sustainable. The opaque blend of GPP used for the Gio Floor Lamp is 50% more temperature-resistant than traditional plant-derived polylactic acids.
The Museum of Modern Art has always been attuned to the close relationship between design and materials—and seeks to represent ways designers employ new materials and technology to improve an object’s function. MoMA Design Store offers products that reflect new advancements in the materials designers are using at the moment they emerge.
