These colorful Turkish bins from Danish brand HAY are sturdy enough to build into a stacked unit, yet easily collapse flat when not in use. Cheerful and versatile, they can help bring order to any room in your home. Use the Collapsible Storage Bins in the dining area to hold table linens and utensils; in the children’s room to hold to art supplies and toys; in the kitchen to organize fruits and vegetables or spices; or in the workspace or bedroom to contain photo albums, desktop clutter and stationery. HAY is a manufacturer with work in MoMA's collection.
Why We Chose This
HAY Collapsible Storage Bins are an innovative storage solution designed and produced in Turkey by Aykasa Polimer, a family-owned company founded in 2006. The foldable designs were originally produced as crates for fruits and vegetables. In 2015, they introduced a wide range of bright colors, so this functional design is also an upbeat home accent. The crates easily fold and open in seconds thanks to Aykasa's patented hinge and lock system. This durable system allows the crates to be opened and collapsed frequently for long-lasting use.
Function plays a large role in defining good design. When designers look at an object, they don't just consider its aesthetic appearance—they should also challenge it to be more versatile, to respond to the user's need, or to achieve its purpose more elegantly. Good design has the capacity to solve problems that sometimes we didn't even know we had. This is one of the ways design touches and enriches our everyday life.
