DIS: Positive Ambiguity Poster
Description
The beautiful Conchita Wurst graces this poster for the MoMA exhibition Ocean of Images: New Photography 2015. It's the latest installment, and 30th anniversary, of MoMA's longstanding New Photography exhibition series. The image on this poster was made specifically for this exhibition by DIS, a New York-based art collective comprising Lauren Boyle, Solomon Chase, Marco Roso, and David Toro that routinely interrogates the contemporary conventions of image-making in a culture of hyper-circulation and overproduction.

DIS chose Eurovision 2014 winner Conchita Wurst as the center of the Ocean of Images marketing campaign. Through image dissemination and amplification Wurst has become a beloved icon of European popular culture and a manifestation of virality, a symbol of queer positivity and a flashpoint for political tensions.
