This A Vida Portuguesa Pencil is made by Viarco, the oldest and only pencil manufacturer in Portugal. The company was founded by industrialist and entrepreneur Manoel Vieira de Araújo in the 1930s, and is still family-owned to this day. Viarco, which is an acronym for Vieira Araújo & Companhia, created this pencil exclusively for A Vida Portuguesa, a Lisbon-based, women-owned shop focused on the traditional craft of Portugal. Each one is made of high-quality graphite and cedar wood with a matte black finish and “A Vida Portuguesa” stamped in gold or silver. (The color will be randomly selected for you.) Pair it with a patterned notebook for all your thoughts and sketches. The A Vida Portuguesa Graphite Pencil measures 7"l.

Why We Chose This
Here at MoMA Design Store, we have always championed the tradition of original products, made with care by local artisans. This everyday design was sourced by A Vida Portuguesa, a small Lisbon-based shop focused on goods made in Portugal. A Vida Portuguesa celebrates brands that have survived the passage of time and highlights the quality of Portuguese manufacturing and design.
