Designed by Alvar Aalto in 1935, the Chair 66 is a classic kitchen chair that can also be used in other rooms of your home. Made in Finland from Finnish birch wood, Chair 66 boasts a wide backrest that provides comfort and flexibility. The wood is durable but also lightweight, making it easy to move the chair around your home. Chair 66 stands 30.75” high with a 16.5”diam. round seat. Some assembly required. Both Alvar Aalto and the chair’s manufacturer, Artek, are represented in MoMA’s collection.

Alvar Aalto (1898–1976) was a renowned Finnish architect, designer and town planner known for synthesizing romantic and pragmatic ideas. He is credited with creating designs that had a profound impact on the trajectory of modernism before and after World War II. Many examples of this furniture are represented in MoMA’s collection and have been featured in the Museum’s exhibitions, including Alvar Aalto: Architecture and Furniture (1938) and How Should We Live? Prepositions for the Modern Interior (2016–2017).
