This elegant design from 1946 by Ilmari Tapiovaara was originally created as part of a furniture series for the Domus Academia student housing complex in Helsinki. Also known as “The Finn Chair,” the Domus has a three-dimensionally curved seat that is both ergonomic and highly comfortable, allowing you to sit for long periods of time. Despite the armrests being short, they offer surprising support and serve the function of allowing the chair to be pulled close to a table or desk. This allows the Domus to be suitable as both a dining or work chair and can also be used for seating in your living room. It is also stackable for up to four chairs. Made in Finland from solid oak and birch wood, as well as form-pressed birch veneer for the seat and back core, the Domus Chair measures 31.75h x 22.75w x 21.25”d. It’s made by Artek, a manufacturer with work in MoMA’s collection
