Why We Chose This
Milton Glaser's iconic "I (Heart) NY logo—a design represented in MoMA's collection—was famously conceived in the back of a NYC taxi cab. After Glaser was enlisted in a campaign to boost the Big Apple's sagging reputation in 1976—crime, looming bankruptcy, a garbage collection strike—he scribbled "I ♥ NY" on a paper napkin. The doodle evolved into one of the world's most recognizable slogans.
