This new version of BAO BAO ISSEY MIYAKE’s famous PVC triangular split panel bag, the Carat, has some unique features. The bag’s gusset collapses to create a rich volume and when the bag is empty, the shape returns to be flat. The BAO BAO ISSEY MIYAKE Carat Handbag is made from polyvinyl chloride and synthetic leather. It measures 9.06h x 9.06w x 4.53”d.

Why We Chose This
Issey Miyake was a conceptual fashion designer known for his technology-driven clothing designs and new methods of pleating fabric. His work is represented in MoMA’s collection, most notable his A-POC Queen Textile (1997), a collaboration with Fuijwara Dai, which is a system of producing self-tailored clothes. The work was also included in MoMA’s 2017–2018 exhibition Items: Is Fashion Modern?
