Originally designed so that members of the Sun King’s court could move around the palace noiselessly, Charentaises are still produced in France’s Charente region and their design has remained relatively unchanged after centuries. Their natural felt sole and wool lining bring comfort and warmth to your feet. Our Charentaise Slippers are now made by Olivier Rondinaud, whose family has been in the slipper business for four generations, since 1907. While new production processes are being used, traditional techniques—such as the famous stitch-and-turn—are still respected and employed. With stitch-and-turn, the sole is sewn and mounted inside-out without the use of glue, making them machine-washable.
