Aalto integrated the natural contours of the Finnish landscape into his free-form vase series. The Finlandia Vase, a new edition based on the original Aalto Vase which is in the Museum's collection and was introduced at the 1936 Paris World's Fair. It is taller and narrower than the classic Aalto vase, and allows for easy flower arranging. Each piece is mouth-blown of lead-free crystal into a mold and hand polished. Made by Iittala.

Alvar Aalto (1898–1976) was a renowned Finnish architect, designer and town planner known for synthesizing romantic and pragmatic ideas. He is credited with creating designs that had a profound impact on the trajectory of modernism before and after World War II. Many examples of this furniture are represented in MoMA’s collection and have been featured in the Museum’s exhibitions, including Alvar Aalto: Architecture and Furniture (1938) and How Should We Live? Prepositions for the Modern Interior (2016–2017).
