Inspired by Josef Albers’ series of 1962 paintings, Homage to the Square—works in MoMA’s collection—the face of this watch interprets the works with laser-cut stacked layers of color, for a 3D effect. A director of the Bauhaus from 1926 to 1927, Albers was the first living artist to be given a show at MoMA: The Graphic Construction of Josef Albers (1969–1970). He is perhaps best known for the Homage to the Square paintings and prints, which Albers started in 1950 when he was 62 years old. The works gave Albers a chance to present a vast range of what he called “color climates,” and to juxtapose pure undiluted colors. These colors make a beautiful, bold statement on the face of this watch, a collaboration between The Albers Foundation and Projects Watches. The Josef Albers Watch has an hour and minute hand and white, with a second hand in green or pale blue, depending on the style you choose. The watch is made from stainless steel with a 35mm case and a 7.13l x 0.75”w expandable metal band.
